About ICSE/ISC
The Indian School Certificate (ISC) is a renowned educational board in India, established by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on November 3, 1958. The CISCE is a well-represented body, including members from the Government of India, State Governments, Union Territories, and various educational associations. Over the years, the ISC has maintained its unique identity and achieved significant milestones, contributing to the evolution of the Indian education system.
The ISC’s journey began in 1963 when the Overseas Certificate Examination was renamed the Indian School Certificate Examinations. In 1967, the CISCE was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. The first Indian Certificate of Secondary Examination (ICSE Class X) was held in 1970, and the CISCE was recognized as a body conducting public examinations by the Delhi Educational Act, 1973.
In 1977, the ISC started conducting the Class XII examination, aligning with the Kothari Commission’s recommendations for the 10 + 2 pattern of school education. The same year, a minimum attendance requirement of 75% was introduced for Classes XI and XII.
The ISC has always been at the forefront of inclusive education. In 1993, it made special arrangements for students with learning disabilities such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, and ADD. In 1999, it introduced internal assessment in each subject for the ICSE, enabling a more participatory role of teachers and students in the assessment process.
The ISC has also embraced technology in its operations. In 2013, it implemented the Integrated Computerized System, known as CAREERS, for the CISCE’s and Schools operations. In 2015, for the first time, the results were published through the CISCE’s official website.
